The Black River Historical and Moore House Museum

The beautiful restored Moore House Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains the collection of the Black River Historical Society. It was built for the former Lorain Mayor, Leonard Moore and his family. The permanent collection includes exhibits on the Lorain Lighthouse, the 1924 Lorain Tornado, steel-making, shipbuilding industries, war memorabilia, pictures of famous Lorainites, antique house wares and toys.

Our archives include more than 19,000 photos, plus books and newspaper articles about Lorain, making the museum an excellent education resource for anyone researching the city's history. We maintain a growing collection of artifacts, photographs, and other archival materials that document our city's past.

The museum gift shop offers an exclusive selection of items featuring the Lorain Lighthouse, as well as a variety of books, videos, postcards and more. Recent additions include original bricks from Lorain High School with an engraved plaque, and our newest DVD "Lorain Ohio - An International City" produced especially for the Black River Historical Society.
